A sequel to When Santa Learned the Gospel<\/em><\/p>\n by Simon Camilleri<\/em><\/p>\n ————————————–<\/em><\/p>\n When Santa shared the gospel, he went first to Easter Bunny. He wasn\u2019t sure if he would scoff, or if he\u2019d turn his back. But Bunny was a friend of his and so what could he do? The gospel had led him to Christ and he\u2019d been born again. He loved his friend and had to share he was a new believer, And so when Santa knocked upon the Easter Bunny\u2019s door, The Easter Bunny greeted Santa with a smile of joy, \u201cWell funny you should say that.\u201d Santa said as he sat down, I’ve got something to tell you. I feel awkward. A bit scared. So Santa shared the gospel. It was simple. It was short. He worried he had caused offence. Was their long friendship wrecked? \u201cThat\u2019s great.\u201d smiled Easter Bunny. \u201cI am so happy for you! \u201cWhat news!\u201d cried Santa joyfully, \u201cThis must be brand new, is it? The Easter Bunny laughed, \u201cNah, my folks are Christians too! I attend my local church each week, and mid-week Bible Study. At this Santa was puzzled. He\u2019d known Bunny now for ages. He\u2019d never heard him talk of Christ or sharing the good news. See, I\u2019m not much of a talker. Definitely no evangelist! My philosophy is simple. It\u2019s a saying I once heard: I like that motto. Words are hard! I\u2019d rather preach through deeds. Like, you know how every Easter I make you a hot cross bun? And the eggs I paint each year are symbols of the resurrection. \u201cWhy didn\u2019t you just tell me?\u201d Santa asked, shaking his head. \u201cI had really hoped to ask you if you’d come to church with me. \u201cOh Bunny\u201d, Santa sighed, \u201cI\u2019m sorry you felt that way. The gospel has the power to save, you shouldn\u2019t feel ashamed! When I first learned the gospel, I was told it by an elf. There\u2019s no need to be clever. Don\u2019t have to try to sell it. He wasn\u2019t sure how he\u2019d respond, if he would find it funny.<\/p>\n
In truth, Santa had no idea how Bunny might react.<\/p>\n
The gospel had transformed his life. It could bless Bunny too.<\/p>\n
So Santa knew he couldn\u2019t keep this good news from his friend.<\/p>\n
But he didn\u2019t want to jeopardize their solid friendship either.<\/p>\n
His heart was filled with hope and fear (but fear a little more).<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat brings you \u2018round?\u201d He laughed, \u201cOr have I been a \u2018naughty boy\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI’ve actually had that whole system of thinking flipped around!<\/p>\n
I know I don’t know all that much, but what I know, I\u2019ll share.\u201d<\/p>\n
And when he stopped he couldn’t tell at all what Bunny thought.<\/p>\n
But then his friend said something Santa didn\u2019t quite expect\u2026<\/p>\n
You probably didn\u2019t know, but guess what? I\u2019m a Christian too!\u201d<\/p>\n
How’d you learn about the gospel? Did my elf friend pay a visit?\u201d<\/p>\n
I was brought up with the gospel. I\u2019ve always known it\u2019s true.<\/p>\n
Hey! Now that you\u2019re a Christian, we can be church-going buddies!\u201d<\/p>\n
He\u2019d never seen him go to church or turning Bible pages.<\/p>\n
And Bunny said, \u201cLook Santa, I can tell that you\u2019re confused.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ll answer questions if I\u2019m asked, but if not, I won\u2019t insist.<\/p>\n
\u2018Preach the Gospel at all times. And if needed, then use words.\u2019<\/p>\n
And so instead of talking I\u2019ve been sowing subtle seeds.<\/p>\n
Well, I hoped that cross might vaguely point you the \u2018Jesus\u2019 one.<\/p>\n
I guess I hoped you\u2019d see the subtle \u2018empty tomb\u2019 connection.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, I didn\u2019t want to force my faith upon you.\u201d Bunny said.<\/p>\n
But for years I’ve just been waiting for the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
I understand it\u2019s awkward, but there was no need for delay.<\/p>\n
You\u2019re the Easter<\/em> Bunny after all. The gospel\u2019s in your name!<\/p>\n
Her example showed me all you need to do is be yourself.<\/p>\n
You don\u2019t have to be subtle. All you have to do\u2026 is tell it.<\/p>\n
But if Jesus is alive, my friend, that\u2019s good news that\u2019s worth sharing!\u201d<\/p>\n
I could have shared the gospel with you years and years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Easter Bunny grinned and said, \u201cYou know what? That sounds great!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd while we\u2019re out how \u2018bout we go swing past Tooth Fairy\u2019s place?\u201d<\/p>\n
